“The Singing Women of Central Texas exists for the purpose of glorifying the gospel of Jesus Christ,” said Linda Bradley. “It provides an opportunity for Christian growth, inspiration, fellowship, mission and service and encourages musical excellence in the local church.” Since its inception, SWOCT has joined together bi-annually with all the Singing Women of Texas chapters to perform in churches across Texas.
After enjoying her time as a member of the Singing Women of South Texas (SWOST) in San Antonio, Linda Bradley began feeling led to offer the same opportunity to Central Texas women. She and two fellow SWOST members, Fran Dumas and Sylvia Goree, began praying about launching their own chapter, to be one of seven in Texas. On August, 18, 2007, 41 talented ladies from the Central Texas area participated in their first full-day rehearsal, and realized a dream.
The newly formed seventh chapter would be named Singing Women of Central Texas (SWOCT). Bolstered by the sponsorship of the Texas Baptists, the SWOCT hold concerts once a month from September through May in Central Texas. The Round Rock-based chapter draws its members from as far north as Temple and as far south as Buda. Their repertoire includes classical and traditional sacred music by contemporary composers as well as America spirituals. More than anything, however, the group wants to offer the gift of praise.
